Golden State Combat's kickboxing classes incorporate different techniques from Muay Thai, Dutch Kickboxing, Western Boxing and Karate. Our classes mostly consist of technical drills, pad hitting/holding and guided/controlled sparring .
Kickboxing Fundamentals: A good class for beginners looking to build a kickboxing foundation or intermediate/advanced students looking to review and sharpen their basics. This class also covers the basics of proper pad holding.
Kickboxing: Basic concepts/techniques are reviewed in warmup while the majority of class will cover more advanced subjects. This class mostly consists of technical drills, pad hitting, Dutch style combo exchanges and technical sparring. This class is not recommended for brand new students.
Open Mat Kickboxing: On Sundays, GSC is open at 12:00 pm for members to come work out on their own and with each other. There is no class structure so you are welcome to do what you want during the period. Because there is no instruction, brand new students are not recommended to attend this class without some previous experience in the fundamentals class.
Golden State Combat is a Black Sheep Jiu Jitsu affiliate. Classes are taught by Travis Rugen, brown belt under Black Sheep Jiu Jitsu Black Belts Woolf Barnato and Danny Speirn.
Classes begin with a 10 minute warmup, consisting of basic calisthenics and stretching. Warmup is followed by 40 minutes of technical instruction and drilling. Classes end with 30-45 minutes of rolling/sparring.
Both Gi and NoGi Jiu Jitsu classes are offered at GSC. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in both, but not required. At GSC, we believe in being well rounded grapplers who are competent while wearing a kimono and without one.
